After two difficult weeks marked by ten goals conceded, Angers rediscovered defensive discipline to secure a goalless draw against Lorient.
After two painful outings, SCO needed to reassure itself. The ten goals conceded during the away trips to Brest and against OM had exposed recurring weaknesses in the back line. On Sunday, October 25, facing Lorient, the Angevins opted for a different approach: more compact, more disciplined, and careful not to let anything slip through the middle.
The game plan was clear from the kick-off. The players tightened their lines, limited the gaps between defence and midfield, and favoured collective running over risky individual initiatives. Lorient, also seeking stability, created a few openings without managing to trouble the net in a contest that was committed yet closed.
This goalless draw alone does not transform Angers' season, but it offers welcome breathing space. Picking up points while regaining solidity is a positive signal for a group that must rebuild its confidence. The coaching staff can build on this performance to consolidate the defensive automatisms in the weeks ahead.
The challenge now is turning this rigour into consistency. The recent weeks have shown that SCO can be competitive, but also that the side can quickly come apart after a single lapse. The next step will be to confirm this return to a solid collective structure, without being satisfied with a reassuring scoreline.
