Primary school pupils were the first to return to the pool at Argentré-du-Plessis, which has been rehabilitated following a fire.
The community pool in Argentré-du-Plessis, located in the Ille-et-Vilaine department, welcomed new users on Monday, 2 November 2026. Primary school students were the first to enter the premises to test the facilities, marking the official start of the sporting venue’s reopening.
This public facility, managed by Vitré Communauté, suffered significant damage in May 2023 after a fire that primarily affected the roof. The incident forced the operators to close the doors to the public for an indeterminate period, rendering swimming sessions in the commune impossible.
Rather than limiting the scope to a simple restoration, the intercommunality seized the opportunity to modernize the entire building. The rehabilitation works allowed the infrastructure to be adapted to current standards and improved the comfort for swimmers. The objective was to provide a safer and more functional environment for the residents of the community of communes.
The return of the young pupils symbolizes the residents' attachment to this sporting installation. After nearly three years of closure, seeing it reopen has caused a certain sense of relief, particularly among families and teachers who use the venue for water activity instruction. Regular activities are expected to resume gradually over the coming weeks.
Vitré Communauté has confirmed that the pool is now fully operational. Timetables and enrollment procedures for the adult public and swimming clubs have been updated to support this reopening. The facility plays a central role in the local sports offering and brings new life to the vibrancy of the territory.
