WBC super-middleweight champion Christian MBilli will attempt this Saturday in Riyadh to climb the final step against Mexican legend Canelo Alvarez.
Ten years after his professional debut, Christian MBilli stands at the foot of the mountain. Saturday night, in the spectacular arena of Riyadh, the French-Cameroonian will face the man many consider the best boxer of his generation: Canelo Alvarez.
This bill represents much more than just another fight. For the native of Montreuil, it is the opportunity to carve his name into the marble of pugilistic legend. A three-time world champion in different weight classes, the Mexican represents the ultimate test, the one few boxers manage to overcome.
MBilli arrives, however, with confidence. Undefeated since his professional beginnings, he has gradually climbed the ranks of the world hierarchy. His notable stint at the Rio Olympics under the colors of France, within a promising generation nicknamed 'Team Solide,' had already hinted at exceptional potential.
The task that awaits him remains colossal. Canelo Alvarez, despite his thirty-four springs, retains a ring science and punching power that make contenders tremble. The Mexican's experience in big fights could prove decisive.
Yet, in this sport where the impossible sometimes becomes reality, MBilli will carry the ambitions of an entire segment of francophone boxing. A victory would propel him to the top of the discipline and confirm the emergence of a new major talent on the international scene.
