Gâtinais player Denis Charles claimed victory in the top-ranked draw of the inaugural edition of the autumn tournament organised by Tennis Club Thouarsais.
Tennis Club Thouarsais concluded the first edition of its autumn tournament, contested during the week of 17 to 25 October. Fifty-two players, both women and men, ranked in 4th and 3rd series, took part in the competition, which introduced a new sporting event to the club's calendar.
The top draw, reserved for the highest-ranked entrants, was won by Denis Charles, a player from the Gâtinais. His triumph gives the tournament its first name on the honours board in this inaugural edition.
Beyond the final result, the event met the club's wish to offer a competition during the mid-season period, between the major fixtures of the year. The multi-day format allowed licensed players of varying levels to meet and compete on local courts.
The organisers can take encouragement from the turnout recorded for a first edition. The number of entries suggests genuine interest from members and regional players in this type of event, which could encourage the tournament's return in future seasons.
The inaugural edition thus marks a milestone for Tennis Club Thouarsais, which intends to make this event a regular fixture in its sporting life. Future editions will show whether the tournament becomes a lasting part of the local calendar.
