The Vertou players, long dominated, finally shared the spoils (1-1) in a match where they failed to inspire confidence.
The Vertou reserve team had a complicated evening on the pitch at Le Mans Villaret in Régional 1. Long dominated by their opponents, the Vertou players struggled to find their rhythm and create dangerous chances. The home side controlled the exchanges for most of the encounter, putting the visitors' defence under constant pressure.
Faced with this domination, Vertou managed to maintain parity until half-time, but the script seemed to be turning in favour of Le Mans Villaret. The home players multiplied their attacks and created several clear-cut opportunities to open the scoring. However, the Vertou defence's solidity allowed the score to remain goalless at the break.
After the restart, the situation did not immediately improve for Vertou. Le Mans Villaret continued to impose their game and eventually found the breakthrough, taking the lead on the scoreboard. The Vertou players then woke up and managed to react in the final minutes, snatching a draw (1-1) which earned them a point.
Coach Anthony Martins acknowledged after the match that his team had gotten away with it: "We got away with it very well," he admitted. The technician highlighted the difficulty of the encounter and the need for his squad to work harder in order to produce a more polished game in the upcoming challenges. This draw allows Vertou to maintain their position in the standings, but performances will need to improve quickly to avoid further difficult evenings.
