Pacôme Poignant, a trail runner from Morbihan traveling in Asia, won the Vietnam Jungle Marathon on October 17 and is preparing for the Major Chiang Mai in Thailand.
Setting off with just a backpack for a long journey through Asia with his partner Tiphaine, the man from Morbihan, Pacôme Poignant, added another line to his record of achievements. On October 17, he triumphed at the Vietnam Jungle Marathon, a demanding 70-kilometer event with 3,100 meters of elevation gain. A success achieved under particular conditions, far from the European circuits he was accustomed to.
The trail runner, originally from Morbihan, recounts that training in Southeast Asia was not always straightforward. Between the humid heat, shifted schedules, and logistical constraints, he had to adapt his sessions. But the landscapes crossed during the race, amid rice paddies and forest trails, offered a spectacular setting that more than compensated for the difficulties. Discovering the local culture is also an integral part of this adventure.
After this victory, Pacôme Poignant has no intention of stopping there. He is now targeting an even more formidable event: the Major Chiang Mai, in Thailand, scheduled for December 4. This 100-kilometer trail features 5,500 meters of elevation gain, a significant challenge that will require meticulous preparation and impeccable pacing.
For this new appointment, the man from Morbihan will have to contend with the same constraints as in Vietnam, but also with a longer distance and a probably more technical course. His current form, reinforced by his recent victory, will be an asset. He can also draw on his experience of racing in Asia, where weather conditions and terrain differ markedly from those in Brittany.
This project is part of a broader approach to travel and discovery. For Pacôme Poignant, running in these regions of the world is a way of combining sporting passion with exploration. He shares this adventure with Tiphaine, who accompanies him daily on this journey. The Major Chiang Mai will constitute a new chapter, with the ambition of confirming his potential on a legendary distance.
