Shortly after the start, Thunder Valley (Maikon De Souza) was checked when crowded between CORPUS JURIS and DUE TO DANCE, both of which shifted marginally.Maikon De Souza explained that after receiving interference in the early stages, his mount settled much further back than anticipated. He said that when racing at the rear of the field, THUNDER VALLEY resented the kickback, and despite his efforts to encourage the gelding to improve through the middle stages, it took some time to respond, he added that near the 700m, when progressing to the inside of MAWHOB, he was obliged to steady and lost momentum when awkwardly placed close to the heels of that runner, which shifted in slightly. He said that once balanced approaching the 600m, THUNDER VALLEY commenced to respond to his riding, and rounding the home turn, after directing his mount to the outside of the field, it closed off strongly.
