Former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero will join Ben Shelton's coaching team for the 2027 season, as announced on Sunday.
Juan Carlos Ferrero, the former world No. 1 and long-time coach of Carlos Alcaraz, will begin working with American Ben Shelton, currently ranked No. 4 in the world, for the 2027 season. The announcement was made on Sunday, November 1, confirming a collaboration that had been rumored in recent weeks.
Ferrero, who guided Alcaraz to multiple Grand Slam titles and the top of the rankings, stepped down from his role with the Spanish star in December 2025. Since then, he has been selective about his next project, and Shelton's aggressive game and potential appear to have convinced him to return to the tour.
Shelton, known for his powerful serve and athleticism, has steadily climbed the rankings over the past two seasons. The addition of Ferrero, a tactician with a proven track record of developing young talent, is seen as a major boost for the American's ambitions at the highest level.
Neither Ferrero nor Shelton provided further details about the exact terms of their agreement or the composition of the new coaching staff. However, the partnership is expected to begin officially at the start of the 2027 calendar, with pre-season training likely to take place in Spain.
This move marks a significant shift in the men's tour coaching landscape, as Ferrero brings his experience from working with one of the sport's brightest stars to another rising contender. Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see how this collaboration unfolds.
